When it's just local elections without a general electionon the same day the Voter turnout is quite low, which is a shame as you are missing an opportunity to support a candidate that can have an influence in what happens in your community and quality of life. It may be that you have given up on Political Party's either because trust has been lost, manifesto pledges are not kept or the Westminster experience is a big turn-off. Local Councils such as Borough and Parish Councils tend to be more about the community rather than the nation, and that's why it's important to Vote, and Vote for a candidate that aligns with what matters to you in your Village. Naturally I would advocate voting for an Independent candidate if their aspirations reflect your views, and an Independent Councillor has no donors or political party masters to satisfy. Independents only report to residents and work for the best interests of the community.
This is quite simple to do and all the instructions can be found at https://www.surreyheath.gov.uk/elections-and-voting/register-vote/how-register
You can vote at Polling Stations (we are always pleased to see Voters) or by Postal Vote once you have registered to vote. https://www.surreyheath.gov.uk/council/elections-and-voting/voting-information/applying-vote-post
The Government has introduced a new law that means that anyone voting in person at a polling station will need to show photo identification before being given a ballot paper to vote.
